Acute Cerebellitis MRI


A 31 y o male with occipital headache since 3 weeks followed by progressive ataxia.
On admission MRI Brain, Diffusion and FLAIR images.
This MRI study of Brain shows diffuse faint high signals involving cerebellar hemispheres on DW images with parenchymal swelling on FLAIR.
Csf evaluation revealed pleocytosis.

Imaging diagnosis : Acute Cerebellitis.

Acute Cerebellitis

Also known as Acute Cerebellar Ataxia.
An Inflammatory syndrome of cerebellar dysfunction.
Infectious, post-infectious, or post-vaccination.
Typically seen in children, adult cases are also known.
Outcome of Cerebellitis in young adults is considered quite favorable compared to children.
